Karaoke Contest
Summer is finally here and that means a lot of planning is well underway for the 2008 Red Flannel Festival. Included in this year’s events will be the 2nd Annual Red Flannel Karaoke contest. The contest will be held in the Grand Lodge just like it was last year. Unlike last year, however, the contest will be held on 2 consecutive nights, Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct 4. Friday night will be the elimination round. Ten finalists from that round will go to the Finals on Saturday night. This change from last year will both sharpen the competition and keep things interesting for the audience. Trying to crowd too many contestants into one night is a difficult task at best.
The Grand Prize this year will once again be $1000.00 cash. Prizes will be awarded for 2nd & 3rd place as well. The Red Flannel Festival Board of Directors is asking each participating bar or tavern to sponsor the event with a $200.00 entry fee which will cover prize money, costs and extensive advertising for the participating businesses. This entry fee will easily be re-couped by each bar from increased business as they have their own contests in the weeks preceding the finals at the Festival.
Each bar and karaoke host is free to run their own contest any way they see fit. However, we are asking each bar to send only 3 contestants to this years final. We recommend that each bar have 3 or 4 elimination rounds, and then their own in-house final where the 3 contestants will be chosen. This process must be completed no later than September 20th. This will give the contest organizers 2 weeks to gather the names of all the contestants and prepare for the big weekend on Oct. 3 and 4. If a contestant from a bar is not able to be at the Finals in the Grand Lodge tent, their place may be taken by another contestant from the same bar who also attempted to qualify. And, as last year, participants will only be allowed to compete in one in-house final. Also, as a reminder, the 1st and 2nd place winners from last year are not eligible to compete this year. Heck, they oughta have record contracts by now anyway!
