This will is our 69th Annual Celebration of Red Flannel Day since 1939. Our festival is held each year on the First Saturday of October.

Friday, Sept. 26, 2008
PRINCE and PRINCESS CONTEST
Join area kindergarten students as the smallest Red Flannel Royalty is crowned. Free admission, refreshments by Tom’s Bakery in Sparta, and entertainment. Begins at 7 pm.
HISTORIC KENT THEATRE – DOWNTOWN CEDAR SPRINGS

Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008
RED FLANNEL 5K RUN AND WALK – NEW ROUTE & LOCATION!
5K Run starts at 9 am  - 5K Walk starts at 9:15 am
This is a FUN EVENT for the ENTIRE FAMILY as runners and walkers weave their way through the downtown course. COMPUTERIZED TIMING!! $20 for 5K Run entrants and $15 for 5K Fun Walk in seven divisions.

BED RACE OBSTACLE COURSE
In one of the zaniest events the Festival offers, five-person teams race beds around an obstacle course competing for the best time! Throw in Festival icon, the Keystone Kops, and the result is a hilarious time for all! Bring your own bed, or rent one from the Red Flannel Festival! Check in begins at 12:30 pm; Race begins at 1:30 pm. $10 entry fee (per 5 person team)

HORSESHOE THROWING CONTEST
An Original 1939 Red Flannel Festival Event! Shoes begin flying at NOON! Entry fee is $10 per 2 person team and top teams receive trophies and prizes! Free admission!

CHILI COOK OFF – NEW DATE & FORMAT!
Participants prepare and cook their own special chili recipe on site and a colorful team of judges tastes each entry. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place. After the competition, stay and taste the chili for $1 per bowl. Other food also available.
Cooking begins at noon, judging at 2 pm. $20 entry fee.

FIRE BARN OPEN HOUSE
Join Fire Chief Jerry Gross and the outstanding staff of volunteer firefighters to tour the Cedar Springs Fire Department. Free refreshments and admission! Immediately following the Bed Races.

RED FLANNEL CHILDREN’S PARADE
Boys and girls can decorate their bikes and wear costumes in their own parade! Cedar Springs Police and Fire Departments, Keystone Kops and 2007 Red Flannel Queen and Court join the fun! Please provide bicycle helmets! Parents are encouraged to walk with young children! Parade begins promptly at 3 pm!

LUMBERJACK SUPPER
A Red Flannel tradition since 1941! The Cedar Springs Lions Club hosts this delicious lumberjack supper of ham, fresh side pork, boiled potatoes, and all the trimmings!
Dinner served 5-7 pm, immediately prior to the Queen Scholarship Pageant.
$8 adult - $6 child - $24 family

RED FLANNEL QUEEN SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT
The very first Red Flannel Queen, Maxine Smith, was crowned in 1939! Enjoy the elegance and tradition of a signature event, the Red Flannel Queen Scholarship Pageant. Tickets available from contestants or at the CS Library, $10. Available at the Box Office for $15 at 6 pm. Doors open at 7 pm for Pageant.
